Yet another font nerd.

I love simple design, elegant typefaces and grey t-shirts.

My name's Joe - I'm a 27 year old designer/marketer living in Brisbane, Australia.

I love tech, design, marketing and reading news.

My story.

When I was 6, my dad brought five broken computers home. He showed me the components and explained what they did. Then, we salvaged the parts and I built my first PC.

I was hooked.

I installed every software demo I could find - just to explore.

I got into design through forgery

At 10, I counterfeited my school newsletter in MS Publisher.

I added extra days of holiday, printed it out, and gave copies to people I didn't like - they missed school.

Fast forward to 12. I learnt HTML and CSS - the basic languages of the internet. I kept practising, copying things I liked and trying new things.

I wanted to make cool images, so I learnt. Adobe Fireworks, then Photoshop.

I wanted a laptop, so I sold Coca-Cola and crisps at school to fund one.

Then, I decided to start making money:

I designed websites, logos and images for small businesses, doing something new each time. See what I can do in my portfolio.

Joining the agency

At 18, I was hired by equimedia, a digital marketing agency based in Swindon.

I worked there before, during and after University (where I got a first class degree and a kick-awesome ability to cook curry).

In my time at equimedia, I worked for some of the world's largest brands in financial services, charity, property, online retail, travel and technology.

I've worked in the following areas:

account management
turning client requests into action
advertising operations
getting adverts online, optimising for profit
PR, content and social
researching, writing and designing for the web
technical operations
building and improving websites

...and now I'm using my experience to grow a cyber security company.

You can read more about my work on my CV page.

When I'm not working, you can find me reading the news (see what I read here), cooking delicious food, co-hosting a future tech podcast or playing piano.
